On February 13, 2012 the Permanent Mission of the Republic of Belarus to the United Nations in New York hosted the signing ceremony of the Agreement between the Republic of Belarus and the United Nations on the measures to expedite the import, export and transit of relief consignments and possessions of relief personnel in the event of disasters and emergencies. The International agreement was signed by the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Belarus to the United Nations Andrei Dapkiunas and the Assistant Secretary–General for Humanitarian Affairs, Deputy Emergency Relief Coordinator Catherine Bragg.

The Agreement creates legal conditions required to expedite customs clearance of the import or transit of relief consignments and possessions of United Nations personnel used for elimination of consequences of disasters and emergencies. Such consignments are exempt from customs fees and duties; the process of their customs clearance is simplified. Due to these measures the United Nations will be able to use the transport infrastructure and other facilities of the Republic of Belarus for faster delivery of relief consignments.

The signing of this Agreement increases the contribution of the Republic of Belarus to the work of UN bodies responsible for humanitarian and disaster relief. Simplification of procedures used for import of relief consignment and possessions of UN personnel also allows the fastest possible deployment of operations for elimination of consequences of emergencies in case they occur on the territory of the Republic of Belarus.
