MINSK, 14 February — Counselor at the Permanent Mission of Belarus to the United Nations Larisa Belskaya was elected one of three Vice–Chairmen of the UN Commission for Social Development at the 51st session of the commission

Permanent Representative of Nepal to the United Nations Gyan Chandra Acharya was elected Chairman of the Commission. Representatives of Egypt and Spain were elected members of the bureau of the commission on behalf of the African and Western European regional groups.

Priority theme of the 51st session is empowerment of people in eradicating poverty, promoting social integration and full employment and decent work for all. The session will review the implementation of the plans and programs of the United Nations for persons with disabilities, youth, the elderly and family. It is also expected that policy and institutional issues will be addressed at the session as well.
