On May 18 Brest State University hosted an interuniversity scientific–methodical seminar “Modernization of human rights education. Human rights: understanding and role in society of today”. In course of the seminar the participants discussed topical issues directly connected with the World Programme for Human Rights Education (2010–2014), namely facilitation of culture of human rights and common understanding of basic principles and methods of human rights education with regard to international documents.

On May 18 Brest State University hosted an interuniversity scientific–methodical seminar “Modernization of human rights education. Human rights: understanding and role in society of today”.

The seminar was attended by the faculty of the “Human rights” educational course read in various higher education institutions of the country, representatives of ideology department of Brest regional executive committee, activists of the Belarusian public association for human rights, students and faculty of Brest state university named after A. Pushkin, representatives of UN Office in Belarus.

In course of the seminar the participants discussed topical issues directly connected with the World Programme for Human Rights Education (2010–2014), namely facilitation of culture of human rights and common understanding of basic principles and methods of human rights education with regard to international documents.

Plan of actions of the second stage of the World Programme for Human Rights Education was developed by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees at the request of the Human Rights Council in 2010. During the second stage of the Programme specific attention is paid to human rights element within the higher education system and training faculty, civil servants, law enforcement and the military in human rights issues.
