Belarusian participants of the Model UN marked 1,000 days to the deadline for achieving the MDGs

Students of the Faculty of International Relations of the Belarusian State University took part in the Belarusian Model United Nations (MUN) which was organized together with UN Office in Belarus 11–12 April. This year MUN was evolved around the Millennium Development Goals momentum and 1,000 days of action as well as the International Day of Water Cooperation.

“Water is one of the issues the Millennium Development Goals addresses. It was amazing that we came together as the world and agreed on these goals and the MDG framework to eradicate poverty and deal with various economic and social issues”, said Sanaka Samarasinha, UN Resident Coordinator in Belarus in his address at the opening of the Model UN.

For the year 2013 simulation the Faculty has also chosen the work of Security Council discussing the urgent problem of today — the situation in North Korea, specifically “Non–proliferation: Democratic People’s Republic of Korea”.

During discussion of the post–2015 agenda the participants of the MUN filled in Post–2015 voting cards prepared for the MY World global survey.

Model UN at the Belarusian State University was operational at the Faculty of International Relations for 15 years, being the oldest one in the country.

During this period more than 20 UN Models with hundreds of students involved have been organized.
