The UN Resident Coordinator’s Office in Belarus and the International University MITSO have announced the creative writing contest 1000 words against slavery. The contest is focused on fighting against modern–day slavery and is held to draw young people’s attention to the issues of slavery and human trafficking, to increase their motivation and to identify most gifted high school graduates.

The contest is focused on fighting against modern–day slavery and is held to draw young people’s attention to the issues of slavery and human trafficking, to increase their motivation and to identify most gifted high school graduates.

By the decision of the UN General Assembly the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade is celebrated annually on March 25. This day gives an opportunity not only think about the cruel suffering of the victims of slavery but also to promote raising of awareness about the dangers of racism and prejudice.

The creative writing contest is open to high school and vocational school graduates (2014) in Belarus. The applicants are to send their papers (essays) or a video clip with the common theme 1000 words against slavery to the e–mail address This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. by March 31, 2014. The working languages of the contest are Russian, Belarusian and English.

The contest is open from March 7 to 31, 2014. The papers and video clips will be evaluated and the contest results will be announced from April 10 to 20, 2014.

The contest winners will receive prizes from the UN Office in Belarus and the International University MITSO. The organizers of the contest also established the Grand Prix – free–of–charge education  in the International University MITSO with the chosen major for the academic year 2014–2015¹. The decision to award the Grand Prix will be taken by the organizers of the contest.
