Tomorrow Starts Today ­– Theme for the Model UN in the Gymnasium No. 12

The Third International Gymnasium Conference on Model UN GYMUN 2013 started today at the advanced secondary education school Gymnasium No. 12. The conference is attended by over 15 delegations from various educational establishments of Belarus and Russia.

The opening ceremony of the Gymnasium Conference was attended by Dmitry Subtselny, Chair of the national non–governmental association Belarusian Association of UNESCO Clubs, and Sanaka Samarasinha, UN Resident Coordinator/UNDP Resident Representative in Belarus.

In his speech Sanaka Samarasinha welcomed active participation of students and teachers of the Gymnasium No. 12 in conferences on Model UN both in Belarus and abroad which promotes young people’s involvement in discussing and solving the issues of the current global agenda and helps develop communication skills.

The UN Resident Coordinator mentioned the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals and shaping of the Post–2015 Development Agenda and called the Model UN participants to get more actively involved in UN youth programs including those implemented in Belarus.

During the working sessions of the International Conference young people will discuss such issues as climate change, youth entrepreneurship, transnational crime, ban on chemical, biological and nuclear weapons.

By the decision of the Ministry of Education of the Republic of Belarus the Conference was included in the Set of Measures to Implement the State Youth Policy for 2014.
