AIDS Candlelight Memorial in Minsk

On 16 May, the event dedicated to the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial took place in Minsk Cafe Loft. This year, a new tradition of awarding people who made a professional and personal impact to fight HIV and support people living with HIV has been opened. Best Media Person, Best Journalist, Best Interviewee, Best Volunteer, Best TV–programme, Best Designer, Bravest Government Representative and Best NGO Representative working in the sphere of HIV/AIDS received special awards.

On 16 May, the event dedicated to the International AIDS Candlelight Memorial took place in Minsk Cafe Loft.

This year, a new tradition of awarding people who made a professional and personal impact to fight HIV and support people living with HIV has been opened.

Best Media Person, Best Journalist, Best Interviewee, Best Volunteer, Best TV–programme, Best Designer, Bravest Government Representative and Best NGO Representative working in the sphere of HIV/AIDS received special awards.

The ceremony was attended by the Goodwill Ambassador of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Darya Domracheva, UN Resident Coordinator/UNDP Resident Representative in Belarus Sanaka Samarasinha and UNDP Deputy Resident Representative Ekaterina Paniklova.

The only way to honor the memory of those who have died, it is to do everything to improve the lives of people living with HIV. The program of the event included performances, discussions, video demonstrations.

The event was organized by the United Nations Development Programme, the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus, the Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS), the Expert Council on the Information Strategy on HIV/AIDS in the Republic of Belarus.

The International AIDS Candlelight Memorial is an annual campaign held on the third Sunday in May. It helps raise social conscience about HIV and AIDS, highlight the importance of HIV prevention, treatment, care and support.
