A Warm Welcome to the Participants of UN70 Belarus Express For Sustainable Development Goals in Minsk

On Friday, October 30, after a–week journey around the regions of Belarus "UN70 Belarus Express for Sustainable Development Goals" came back to Minsk. At the railroad train platform in Minsk the participants of the UN initiative received a warm welcome from the officials of Minsk Oblast Executive Committee, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, diplomatic missions, non–governmental organizations, media and Minsk residents.

On Friday, October 30, after a–week journey around the regions of Belarus "UN70 Belarus Express for Sustainable Development Goals" came back to Minsk. At the railroad train platform in Minsk the participants of the UN initiative received a warm welcome from the officials of Minsk Oblast Executive Committee, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Belarus, diplomatic missions, non–governmental organizations, media and Minsk residents.

"The Belarusian society followed the media and kept a close eye on the journey the Train took across Belarus. This initiative got the world's attention. It aimed at getting the residents of Belarus to know better the sustainable development goals. They are our goals and we will do our best to achieve them", said Valentin Rybakov, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Belarus in his speech at the ceremony of signing the Declaration of Commitment to the Sustainable Development Goals.

According to the UN Resident Coordinator in Belarus, Sanaka Samarasinha, within 7 days the participants of the “UN70 Belarus Express for SDGs” visited seven cities around the country to hold 253 events, 70 workshops, talk shows and discussions. At different points an overall number of travellers on board the train was about 1,500 people and over 30,000 people from different parts of the country took part in the activities in the cities. The initiative was attended by representatives of 30 diplomatic missions, 30 private companies and 40 non–governmental organizations as well as representatives of almost all line ministries, the President’s Administration, members of the Parliament, governors of all regional executive committees and districts’ local authorities.

"Our initiative does not end here. In every regional city we signed the Declaration of Commitment to Sustainable Development Goals. We have heard the voices of people. We have documented their views and wishes. And we will present them to all the governors and the Prime Minister for everyone to understand the way 17 sustainable development goals will be implemented", said in his speech UN Resident Coordinator in Belarus.

This joint initiative "UN 70 Belarus Express for Sustainable Development" got possible through a partnership between the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the UN agencies in Belarus.
