On April 25, 2016 in Minsk was held the International Conference "Chernobyl thirty years later. From emergency to recovery and sustainable social–economic development of affected areas".
The welcoming remarks to the participants of the conference were made by Vladimir Makei, Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus, Deputy Prime Minister of Belarus Anatoly Kalinin, Helen Clark, Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), UN Under–Secretary–General and Vladimir Vashchenko, Minister of Emergency Situations of Belarus.
Assistant Secretary–General of the United Nations, Director of the Regional Bureau for Europe and the Commonwealth of Independent States, Cihan Sultanoglu also made a report.
The presentation of painting by Belarusian artist S.Krishtapovich to Administrator of the UNDP, UN Under–Secretary–General Helen Clark was held during the conference. The participants had a chance to explore the UN agencies' joint exhibition dedicated to the assistance of the United Nations for the rehabilitation of Belarusian regions, affected by the Chernobyl disaster.
The international conference was attended by representatives of government agencies of Belarus, Russia and Ukraine, state and public organizations, diplomats and media.
