December 6-9, 2019, United Nations Under-Secretary-General, Executive Director of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) Dr. Natalia Kanem is paying her first visit to Belarus.
Director of UNFPA Regional Office for Eastern Europe and Central Asia Alanna Armitage and UNFPA Country Director for Belarus Jaime Nadal have also arrived in the country.
It is planned that during her visit Dr. Kanem will meet Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Belarus Andrei Dapkiunas, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Belarus Igor Petrishenko, and the Minister of Healthcare of the Republic of Belarus Vladimir Karanik.
Also, UNFPA Executive Director will hold working meetings with civil society representatives and participate in the discussions of the population policy and international assistance mobilization.
Dr. Kanem will visit the well-known Belarusian company Flo Health, the developer of the women’s health mobile platform, and the Republican Research and Practical Centre “Mother and Child” of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Belarus. It is expected that the issues of reproductive health care will be discussed along with the experience of the Republic of Belarus in cardinal reduction of maternal and child mortality and innovative partnership between private sector, civil Society, and medical establishments of the country.
Ms. Kanem will take part in the round table on the issues of demographic security and demographic data collection for sustainable development and in the opening ceremony to launch the first stage of the gender equality promotion program financed by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA).
Dr. Kanem was appointed Executive Director of UNFPA on October 3, 2017. She has 30 years of experience in strategic management in such spheres as medicine, public healthcare, reproductive health protection, securing social justice, and charitable activities.
