The Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) Youth Forum, annually held at the UN headquarters in New York since 2012, ended in New York yesterday. The forum provides young people a unique opportunity to express their opinion, exchange ideas and think together about what they can do to achieve sustainable development.
They participate in brainstorming discussions, in interactive groups of speakers and in discussing the main topic with the Member States. Side events stimulate participants to deepen interaction with each other on a wide range of topics.
The main participants of the two-day Forum are the national youth councils, the main group “Children and Youth” of the United Nations, regional youth organizations, as well as organizations and networks headed by young people and targeted at young people.
We are happy to announce that Soman Ahmad who is actively involved in the UN volunteer initiatives in Belarus, and in particular, UNHCR in Belarus ones, participated in the Forum.
Soman shared her impressions of the international event with us: “Taking part in a conference of this scale is, putting it mildly, intriguing, because such a chance comes once in a million. It was great to hear the voices of young people from all over the world, who want the best changes in the world and are ready to work actively for this. I look forward to returning home to share the results of the discussion with representatives of the UN and youth organizations in Minsk.
