On September 9, the capital of Belarus hosted 2018 Minsk Half Marathon. This year it brought together more than 35,000 professional and amateur runners from 53 countries.
The United Nations in Belarus put together a team of 140 runners to speak up for #SDGs and bring #globalgoals closer to people under the slogan “Let’s reach 17 Goals together!” UN agencies staff, partners and friends of the international organization, TV hosts, representatives of civil society, private and public sector, youth took part in this landmark sports event.
"It was important for us to show that 17 Sustainable Development Goals are not an abstract call to action created somewhere in the UN offices. To put it simply and briefly: the Sustainable Development Goals help improve people's lives in every country in the world. It is in support of this idea that we were going to run the Marathon," — representatives of the UN agencies in Belarus shared.

About the Sustainable Development Goals:
In 2015, all UN member states adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, which includes a list of 17 Sustainable Development Goals aimed at eradicating poverty, combating inequality and injustice, and addressing environmental problems.
The Sustainable Development Goals are broadly framed, and each of them has its own specific targets. Since all the Goals are interrelated, efforts to achieving them should be comprehensive.
Belarus became one of the 193 UN member states that expressed their commitment to the Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Key documents in the field of SDGs implementation in Belarus are: the National Strategy for Sustainable Development for the period to 2030 of the Republic of Belarus and the Program for Social and Economic Development until 2020.
For the general coordination of the work on achieving the Sustainable Development Goals, there was appointed the National Coordinator for achieving the SDGs and the Council for Sustainable Development.
