15 May 2018 Ms. Joanna Kazana-Wisniowiecki arrived in Belarus to assume the post of the United Nations Resident Coordinator in Belarus and Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Ms. Kazana-Wisniowiecki also serves as Representative of the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Belarus and the Head of the UN office of Department of Public Information (DPI). She is UN Designated Official for Security for Belarus.
Working in UNDP Headquarters since 2010, first as Division Chief for Western CIS and the Caucasus and lately as the Head of Country Office Liaison and Oversight unit of UNDP Regional Bureau for Europe and CIS (RBEC) in New York, Ms. Kazana-Wisniowiecki was responsible for cooperation with UN Member States through their Permanent Missions to the UN and supporting management and oversight of eighteen UNDP Country Offices across Europe and CIS region. She engaged closely with the UN Department of Political Affairs, as well as Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs, the Executive Office of the Secretary-General and other parts of the UN Secretariat. Ms. Kazana-Wisniowiecki worked with UNDP Country Offices in building partnerships with key donors and was member of the Steering Committee of the UNDP-Russia Trust Fund for Development.
In addition to assignments in UNDP Headquarters, Ms. Kazana-Wisniowiecki worked as UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in Ukraine where she led the establishment of a large scale local development progamme. In 2001-2002 she worked as Assistant Resident Representative in the UNDP office in Lithuania. She began her career with the UN in the UNDP Country Office in Warsaw.
Ms. Kazana-Wisniowiecki is Polish, has a Master’s Degree in Economics and International Relations from the Warsaw School of Economics (Szkola Glowna Handlowa). She speaks English and Russian.
Ms. Joanna Kazana-Wisniowiecki replaced Mr. Sanaka Samarasinha who completed his mission in Belarus on 30 April 2018.
