Mr. Neil Buhne, UNDP Resident Representative/UN Resident Coordinator in Belarus is completing his mission and will leave the country by end August 2003

Mr. Neil Buhne (Canada) has been working as a UNDP Resident Representative/UN Resident Coordinator in Belarus since 5 July 1999. Before assignment to Belarus he had worked for UNDP in progressively more responsible positions for 18 years in five countries, most recently as UNDP Deputy Resident Representative for Malaysia, Singapore and Brunei-Darussalam, and before that in Pakistan, Bhutan, Sudan and Sri Lanka. Mr. Buhne holds a Master’s Degree in International Affairs from the Norman Patterson School of International Affairs, Carleton University, Ottawa, Canada. Next Mr. Buhne’s assignment within UN system will be the post of UNDP Resident Representative/UN Resident Coordinator in Bulgaria.

Ms Flavia Bustreo (Italy) has been appointed as new UNDP Resident Representative/UN Resident Coordinator in Belarus. She is expected to arrive in Belarus in October 2003.

Most recently Ms. Bustreo worked at the World Bank, where she was the child health adviser providing input to Bank operations and strategies. Previously, Dr. Bustreo worked with the World Health Organisation, where her primary focus was on child health. She has worked extensively overseas, most recently in Sudan, where for two years she advised the national government on the introduction and implementation of the Intergated Management of Childhood Illness (IMCI) strategy. In addition, she coordinated and delivered IMCI clinical and managerial training in North Africa and the Middle East.

Ms. Flavia Bustreo has a medical degree from Padua University, Italy, a postgraduate qualification in rehabilitation, and an M.Sc. in Communicable Disease Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.

Press conference of Mr. Neil Buhne on the occasion of completion of his mission to Belarus will take place at the National Press Centre (Oktyabrskaya St., 5) at 11.00 on 27 August 2003.
