A contest for the best coverage of the topic “Tuberculosis and Human Fates” in the national mass media is conducted in the frameworks of the information campaign of GFATM’s grant “Support to the National Programme “Tuberculosis” in the Republic of Belarus” implemented by UNDP in collaboration with the Ministry of Health.

The key objective of the contest is to promote the emergence of materials aimed at dispelling prejudice and stereotypes, establishing a tolerant attitude towards people suffering from tuberculosis, making people suffering from TB committed to treatment and giving them motivation to recover.

Printed publications, television and radio companies, news agencies and internet publications that will publish or broadcast on the air materials about the impact of tuberculosis on people’s lives will become the participants of the contest. The materials that are submitted for the contest must be published from February 1, 2010 through May 31, 2010. Materials of commercial nature and materials containing only statistical data on the incidence of tuberculosis may not participate in the contest.

Materials will be assessed on the basis of the following criteria:

• Topicality and significance of the topic for establishing a tolerant attitude among the public towards tuberculosis patients;
• Arguments of the narrative and the thoroughness of story development;
• Expressiveness, precision and accessibility of the language of the narrative;
• Creativity and unconventional approach to material organization.

Winners will be selected in June 2010. Contest results will be published in mass media by July 15.
