Belarusian students lift pens for equality 19 December 2012
On 19 December, the UN Office in Minsk hosted an award ceremony celebrating winners of a national student essay contest on human rights. The call went out on 15 October for a writing competition aimed to expand the values, principles, respect and protection of human rights. Two months later, the contest, jointly organized by UNO and the Raoul Wallenberg Institute for Human Rights and Humanitarian Law, garnered 64 works from 12 schools in Belarus.
Contest of Tourist Territories: From Application to Strategy 14 December 2012 | UNDP
The contest for selection of the pilot tourist territories in Hrodna and Brest Regions for participation in the Project “Local Entrepreneurship and Economic Development” supported by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and implemented by the UN Development Programme is under way in Belarus. On December 4-13 the project staff organized a series of workshops to inform potential applicants about the project and formulation of applications. The project has thus provided advisory support to stakeholders and drawn attention of potential applicants from all districts of the Hrodna and the Brest Regions.

International Day of Non-Violence Marked in Minsk 03 October 2012

WHO mission to Assess the Status on Prevention and Control of Antibiotic Resistance in Belarus 01 June 2012
From 4 to 7 June 2012 a mission to Belarus organized by WHO/Europe will perform an assessment of the status of Belarus regarding prevention and control of antibiotic resistance through surveillance, prudent use of antibiotics, and infection control. Special focus will be on promoting national coordination and strengthening surveillance of antibiotic resistance.

Unit for Patients Suffering from Multi-Drug-Resistant Tuberculosis Opens in Homiel 15 May 2012 | UNDP
Observance of infection control requirements is a prerequisite for effective treatment of tuberculosis. A renovated unit for patients suffering from multi-drug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR TB) was opened in the Homiel Regional TB Hospital. The renovation works have been supported by the grant of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria (GFATM) which is managed by the UN Development Programme in Belarus.

Dear Representative of the Ministry of Health, Dear Head of the National TB Institute, Dear General Secretary of the Red Cross, WHO representative, UN colleagues, Dear friends of the media, It has been 130 years since the cause of tuberculosis, the TB bacillus, has been discovered. Since then through joint efforts the world community has reached tremendous progress in TB treatment and care. Currently we are on track to reverse the spread of this airborne killer. Deaths from TB continue to decline. These gains owe much to the many health-care providers governmental and non-governmental and all those who help to treat and cure people.
Ecological labels as one of the ways to protect the environment 20 March 2012 | UNDP
A roundtable “Ecological labeling in Belarus and in foreign countries” was organized on 20 March in Minsk by the European Union/UN Development Programme’s project “Support to the development of a comprehensive framework for international environmental cooperation in the Republic of Belarus”. The national implementing agency of the project is the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection. One of the focuses of the joint project is a review of the most successful practices of using ecological labels in the European Union and subsequent elaboration of the required regulatory framework in Belarus.
Substitution Therapy Point Opens in Barysau 06 March 2012 | UNDP
A drug substitution therapy point, which is already the 13th point in Belarus, opened today in Barysau. A network of substitution therapy points functions with the assistance of the grants of the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria which are implemented by UNDP in cooperation with the Ministry of Health. Narcological dispensaries offering substitutions therapy have been renovated and provided with medical and laboratory equipment and alarm systems.

An International Monetary Fund (IMF) team led by Mr. Christopher Jarvis visited Belarus during February 22 to March 5, 2012 to hold Article IV consultations with the Belarusian authorities and other stakeholders.
The team met with Prime Minister Myasnikovich, the Chair of the Board of the National Bank of the Republic of Belarus Ms.Ermakova, Deputy Prime Minister Rumas, the Minister of Finance Mr. Kharkovetz, the Minister of Economy Mr. Snopkov, other senior officials, representatives of banks, an independent think tank, and the diplomatic community.

On 29 February the Annual Report of the International Narcotics Control Board (INCB) 2011 was launched at the National Press Centre of Belarus with participation of the UN Resident Coordinator in Belarus Mr. Antonius Broek, Chief of Department of Narcotics Control and Combating Human Trafficking of Ministry of Interior Mr. Alexander Gavrilov and the Chief Narcologist of the Ministry of Health Sergei Osipchik.
The WHO mission on TB will visit Minsk and Bresk region 28 February 2012
The WHO mission on TB and MDR–TB electronic register will take place in the period 28 February – 2 March 2012 in Minsk and Brest region with the objective to provide technical assistance in implementing of TB and multi–drug resistant TB (MDR–TB) electronic register in the country. Mission will be conducted by Piret Viiklep, Estonian Tuberculosis Registry and Valeriu Plesco, M&E Department NTP Moldova.

On November 1, 2005 the UN General Assembly adopted a resolution designating January 27 — the day on which in 1945 the Soviet Army liberated the largest Nazi death camp Auscwitz–Birkenau (Poland) – as International Holocaust Remembrance Day. In 2012, the theme of International Holocaust Remembrance Day is "Children and the Holocaust."

The television series has been filmed within the framework of a Global Fund to Fight AIDS, Tuberculosis and Malaria grant implemented by the United Nations Development Programme and aimed first and foremost at preventing HIV infection and reducing stigma and discrimination against HIV-positive people. First Aaurhus Center to Open in Hrodna 18 January 2012 | UNDP
The regional Aarhus Center is to be established in the city of Hrodna within the framework of the joint project of the European Union and the UN Development Programme “Support to the development of a comprehensive framework for international environmental cooperation in the Republic of Belarus” (“Ecopartnership”). The Center is expected to help people to get an improved access to environmental information, to offer legal advice, to inform about the provisions of the Aarhus Convention and to involve the public and the student community in decision-making on environmental matters at the regional level.
