Projects Fair in the Context of the International
Conference “20 Years after Chernobyl: Strategy for Recovery and Sustainable
Development of the Affected Regions”

1. Objective
The objective of the Projects Fair within
the International conference “20 Years after Chernobyl: Strategy for Recovery
and Sustainable Development of the Affected Regions” is the following:
-
to showcase projects implemented by non-government
organizations, government institutions, other organizations, and initiative
groups on the territory of Belarus and aimed at overcoming/minimizing the
consequences of the Chernobyl disaster;

to identify new constructive ideas for recovery of the
Chernobyl-affected territories, which could be supported by national and
international donors;
-
to inform the population of international organizations and
donor countries capabilities to support initiatives aimed at sustainable
development of the regions affected by the accident at the Chernobyl nuclear
power station.
2. Projects Fair
Implementation
The Projects Fair will be held on 20 April 2006 at the Gomel Public and Cultural Center simultaneously with the NGO Round Table devoted to the role of NGOs in resolving the Chernobyl-related problems.
The Projects Fair will provide the premises for the participants – NGOs, government institutions, private organizations, initiative groups associated with educational establishments, libraries, social service centers, and other institutions working with the population – to show the results and lessons of the projects implemented during the period from 2001 to 2006, as well as to present new initiatives seeking for partnership/support.
The projects will be presented
within four thematic areas:

Socio-economic development;

Healthcare and healthy lifestyle;
-
Radiological and environmental aspects;
-
Culture and education.
3. Projects Fair
Participants
It is planned that the Projects Fair will
showcase up to 80 projects, which will be selected upon consideration of the
application forms (including up to 50 completed and currently implemented
projects, as well as up to 30 partner seeking initiatives). The best projects
selected by the jury will receive special awards.
4. Projects Fair Preparation Stages
Stage 1. Concept development and approval: 1 January – 1 February 2006.
Stage 2. Announcement and dissemination of information about the Projects Fair, collection of application forms for participation in the event: 20 February- 20 March 2006.
Stage 3. Consideration of the application forms, selection of the participants: 20-25 March 2006.
Identification of the jury members, development of a catalogue of the participating projects: 20 March – 15 April 2006.
State 4. Holding of the Projects Fair: 20 April 2006 (in accordance with the Conference Programme at the premises of Gomel Public and Cultural Center).
The jury to select the best projects will consist of at least 12 judges to be divided into four groups (three judges in each group), in order for them to consider the submitted projects.
5. Best Projects Awards
Each participating project will be awarded with a Certificate. The jury is expected to select 8 projects (one from each of the 4 thematic categories among implemented projects and among new ideas presented). One prize - “Sympathy of the Audience Award” - will be given on the basis of the Projects Fair visitors’ voting.
