Acute Economic Concerns as Seen by Young Researchers
The growing share of scienceintensive sectors and high educational attainment are the guarantors of social stability. The second conference of young researchers "Acute concerns of the current economy" was held on 26 November in Minsk in the Belarusian State University of Economics.

The contest for young researchers was held between March and September 2004 within the framework of the UNDP Project "Fostering Dialogue on Key Aspects of SocioEconomic Policy through the Belarusian Economic Journal". Its results were announced at the conference. The authors of the best works were awarded with diplomas, bonuses and souvenirs. At the award ceremony Ludmila Istomina, UNDP Project Coordinator in Belarus, stressed that the United Nations Development Program is willing to provide concrete support to young talents and to facilitate broader engagement of the economic elite in active research. Professor Vladimir Shimov, Rector of the Belarusian State University of Economics and Chief Editor of the Belarusian Economic Journal, stated that representatives of 28 Belarusian educational establishments submitted their works to the contest and this is considerably more than last year. He promised that the terms of the new economic contest will be announced already in February and young researchers who failed to win prizes this year will have a good chance to succeed next year. "Science needs continued engagement of young specialists' brains", — said Mr Shimov. The winners of the contests made presentations covering the subjects which are very acute for Belarus such as "Key factors of business processes development in banking sector", "Tax burden as an indicator of a fiscal system of the government", "Eligibility approaches to identification of small and medium businesses" and others. All winning works will be published in the Belarusian Economic Journal.
