On 11 July many countries marked the World Population Day and the 10th anniversary of the International Conference on Population and Development. In 1994 in Cairo 179 countries made a decision to improve livelihoods of women and their families through expanded access to health services, education, clean environment and reproductive rights. How the livelihoods of the Belarusian women have changed over the last ten years? Who can benefit more: a girl who will celebrate 10th birthday in 2004 or a girl who was born this year? What can they expect in the next decade?

Tomorrow's Children will be Our Judges...
The Fourth WHO Ministerial Conference on Environment and Health "The Future of Our Children" was held on 2325 June 2004 in Budapest, Hungary. The Conference was attended by more than 1000 delegates and observers from 50 Member States in the European Region of WHO, 11 international organizations and 10 NGOs, it has registered the highest attendance ever of countries' delegations since the start of the environment and health process in 1989. Representatives of four countries outside the Region were also present (Argentina, Brazil, Canada and the United States). Belarus was represented at
the Conference by Dr Ludmila Postoyalko, Minister of Health and Mr Alexander
Rachevsky, Head of Foreign Relations Department, Ministry of Natural Resources
and Environment. Ms Katerina Prokofieva from "Znamya Junosti" newspaper attended
the workshop for young journalists which ran in parallel with the Conference.
