Refugee Children and Belarusian Teenagers Have Looked into the Future
For a number of years during the summer holidays the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) has been organizing on–site information sessions, workshops and educational camps for the Belarusian schoolchildren, refugee children and asylum seekers in the Republic of Belarus, Belarusian teachers and volunteers from the refugee community. Within the framework of these activities both children and adults focus on socially significant issues discussing through role plays serious concerns which in everyday life may seem boring and not interesting.

Navruz has come to Minsk
Since ancient times to this day on all the territory of Afghanistan Navruz (New Day) is simultaneously marked as the New Year and the Peasant's holiday. This national holiday marking the end of winter and the coming of spring dates back to ancient times. Navruz is widely celebrated in the Moslem world though it is associated not with the Koran but with the awakening of nature and the start of spring field work. By tradition the festivities last 12 days, starting from vernal equinox up to 2 April.

The Swedish Migration Service is Belarus’ Important Partner in Improving Protection of Refugees

Belarus’ Military Academy, UNFPA and UNAIDS Contributed to the Implementation of the National Program on HIV/AIDS Prevention
The independent evaluation of the project «Improvement of Training of Belarus' Armed Forces Officers in HIV/AIDS Prevention and Methods of Working with the Personnel» was conducted in February 2004. The project was implemented from June 2002 to March 2004 by the Military Academy of the Republic of Belarus; technical and financial support was provided by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Joint United Nations Program on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS).

Armed Forces for Sexual Education
Young people aged 18 — 25 years are annually called up to the Armed Forces of the Republic of Belarus consisting of the army, air force and air defense and enlisting 70 000 officers, warrant–officers and contract personnel. The duration of service is 1.5 years. As Belarus has no system of mandatory HIV testing except testing of recruits from the southern regions of the country who are mandatory tested within the framework of the state program on HIV prevention, it is expedient to improve HIV preventive and awareness efforts in the armed forces.
